If you have put the wrong fuel in, the most important thing is what you do in the next minute.

Do this first

  • Do not start the engine
  • Do not turn the ignition on
  • Tell the station staff
  • Move the car to a safe place only if you can do it without starting it
  • If you are in danger on a road, call 112

Why it matters

Fuel that does not belong in the car can spread through the fuel system once the engine runs or the pump primes. Leaving it alone keeps the problem smaller.

Then call us

Tell us the car, what went in and roughly how much, and whether the engine has run. We explain the next steps and what each involves, and we agree the price before we start.

If the engine already ran

Stop safely as soon as you can, turn it off, and call. Do not keep driving to see what happens.

Common questions

Can I move it a little to the side of the forecourt?

Only push it if you can do so safely, and do not start the engine.

I already started the engine. What now?

Stop safely, switch off, and call us. Do not keep driving.

Is it covered by insurance?

It depends on your policy. Ask your insurer, and keep the receipt.
