Silence, a click, or an engine that turns and will not catch. They feel the same from the driver’s seat, and they can have very different causes.

What it might be

  • A flat or failing battery
  • A starter motor that has given up
  • A fuel problem
  • An electrical fault that is cutting the supply

What we do

We come to the car and work out which one it is, rather than guessing and swapping parts. Then we tell you what the fix involves and what it would cost, and you decide.

If it can be fixed there

Some faults can be dealt with where the car stands. When they can, we say so and agree the price first.

If it cannot

Some repairs need a workshop. If that is the case we tell you clearly, and explain your options. We do not tow, so if the car has to move, a recovery company is the right call. We can pass on what we found so they know what they are lifting.

What to have ready

The make and model, the registration, where the car is, and what it does when you turn the key. Anything you noticed just before it stopped is useful.

Common questions

Is it always the battery?

No. A starter, a fuel problem or an electrical fault can feel the same.

Can you fix it there?

Sometimes. If it needs a workshop, we tell you clearly.

Do you tow?

No. If the car has to move, a recovery company is the right call.
